The Rocky Mountain Moggers were nice enough to invite the RMP to their annual event which coincides with the start of the annual jeep safari. Peter Kula and I [Brian Gould] jumped on the opportunity. The Mog group were great and treated us like we had been wheeling with them for years. Ron, Eric, Alan, Bob, Rob, and the rest of you guys were great! A very casual get together. All the Mog participants have run these trails a zillion times, and it’s really nice to have that expertise. On many of the trails it’s easy to take a wrong turn and at least miss the trail or worse, get lost, but these guys know exactly where to go.
As for how the Pinzgauers did, I can say after running a decent cross section of what is available there, that both Pinzgauers (710-712) work very well on the slick rock with the high ground clearance and lockers. The trucks performed wonderfully. True, we lifted some wheels in normal Pinzgauer fashion (so what) and a few minor mechanical problems slowed us up, but the whole thing was a big E-Ticket ride. We spent a whole lot of time answering questions from people about the Pinzgauer, and folks, in general, no matter what they were driving, were very friendly.
There is an open invitation for Pinzgauers next year to attend, there is no registration fee if you like to wheel your Pinzgauer and have not done Moab yet. You really do need to go at least once!
